Kings & Evans was a soul food restaurant open for about three years. Her late-father was from Eatonton, Georgia and learned how to cook from his family. Myrick recalled her father letting her cook for her aunts and uncles at the restaurant. She loved the instant gratification she received after they ate her food.

"I started to cherish that experience," Myrick remarked. "That's when I fell in love with it."

From beauty expert to culinary artist

Myrick, originally from Dayton and raised in Westwood, completed her education at Belmont High School in 1992. However, she didn't dive into the culinary world right after graduation. Instead, she pursued a career in cosmetology, attending hair school and working as a licensed cosmetologist until her thirties.

As the dynamics in the hair industry began to shift, she found herself "losing the passion for it."

When Myrick was a cosmetologist, she was also bartending at night as a second job to support her four kids. She bartended at Frank & J’s and started bringing in free food. Customers loved it, so she sold her food there.

Myrick has been cooking under Dana’s Soul Food, previously known as Dana Dane’s Soul Food, since the early 2000s. She has cooked at several places throughout Dayton such as Therapy Cafe, Silver Fox Grill & Bar, Kumasi-Kejetia African Market and most recently, American Legion Post 613.

"I've traveled to many different locations, and I've built a following of people from each one," Myrick expressed. "I genuinely appreciate these customers."

The hidden element in soul food

Dana’s Soul Food serves a wide variety of dishes, including chicken wings, burgers, and sandwiches, as well as hearty options like smothered pork chops, ribs, and fish. Some of the most popular items among customers are oxtail, baked chicken with dressing, and delicious soul rolls.

Soul rolls are essentially oversized egg rolls filled with a variety of ingredients like chicken, macaroni and cheese, and greens. Patrons have the option to customize their rolls using any items available on the menu.

Some popular side dishes are greens, macaroni and cheese, and yams. If you're opting for chicken wings, Myrick suggests sampling the spicy garlic, Carolina gold, or garlic parmesan sauces.

“It requires immense dedication and countless sleepless nights... but I truly enjoy my work,” Myrick expressed. “When you infuse love into everything you undertake, it becomes evident.”

At the heart of Myrick's culinary creations lies love, the essential element that flavors every dish. Each meal is crafted from the ground up, drawing on cherished family recipes. Myrick emphasizes that she and her team arrive daily with a passion for preparing delicious food while enjoying the process together.

The transition to Club Evolution

Dana’s Soul Food launched its new location within Club Evolution at 130 N. Patterson Blvd. in Dayton at the beginning of January.

Myrick shared that a friend of hers repeatedly encouraged her to connect with the owners, but she was reluctant at first, fearing she would be required to prepare Italian cuisine. However, after her meeting with the owners revealed that she could create a variety of dishes as long as she included the club’s signature pizza, her hesitation vanished, and she was eager to get started.

With this change, she is extending her hours and aims to "nourish people's souls through food."

Martha Stewart's Hidden Gem for Perfect Pierogi

Martha's clever yet straightforward pierogi advice comes from her mother, whom she affectionately calls Big Martha. Currently Popular View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Martha Stewart grew up in a Polish family, often cooking with her mother, Big Martha. Her mom regularly made pierogi, a simple dumpling filled with potato filling. To this day, Big Martha’s trusted recipe for pierogi is a favorite for the caterer-turned-author-turned-entrepreneur. This recipe includes a surprising ingredient that is essential and must not be overlooked! What is the special ingredient that Martha uses? It’s brown butter. Traditional pierogi is filled with potato and cheese. The pierogi are cooked in boiling water, then served with salt and melted butter. Using brown butter instead of plain melted butter lends rich, toasty notes that elevate the humble dumplings. In her recipe for Pierogi with Potato Filling and Brown Butter, the brown butter is treated like a finishing sauce, drizzled over the cooked dumplings to add flavor. Like Martha says, you don’t have to eat all the butter. It has a functional purpose, too: It keeps the steamy, starchy pierogi from sticking together. To make brown butter, follow these simple steps: 1. **Choose Your Butter**: Start with unsalted butter for better control over the seasoning. 2. **Melt the Butter**: Place the butter in a light-colored saucepan or skillet over medium heat. This will help you monitor the color change. 3. **Watch for Foaming**: As the butter melts, it will begin to foam. Keep stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking. 4. **Observe Color Changes**: Continue cooking the butter until the foam subsides and you start to see a golden brown color develop. You’ll notice a nutty aroma when it’s ready. 5. **Remove from Heat**: Once it reaches a deep amber color, remove it from the heat immediately to prevent burning. 6. **Cool and Store**: Transfer the brown butter to a bowl and let it cool. You can use it immediately or store it in the refrigerator for future use. Enjoy your delicious brown butter in various recipes! It seems like a sophisticated enhancement, yet it's quite simple to achieve. Begin by melting unsalted butter in a saucepan over low to medium heat, using a rubber spatula or whisk to stir it gently. As you do this, the butter will gradually deepen in color until it reaches a lovely golden brown. This transformation occurs as the milk solids detach from the butterfat and start to caramelize. All those toasty bits add flavor, so while you’re welcome to strain them out before serving, it’s often beneficial to leave them in. Besides, when incorporating brown butter into something like chocolate chip cookie dough, the brown speckles are less visible in the final product anyway.

"Did you all realize these were tucked away back here?" A man visits the home and garden aisle at Walmart and discovers something unexpected for sale in that section.

‘Catch em at the right time and they be on the clearance aisle.’ livefromthekitchen_/TikTok bhofack2/Shutterstock View pictures in App save up to 80% data. A chef has taken TikTok by storm after revealing an unexpected treasure he stumbled upon in the home and garden aisle of Walmart: Kinder’s seasoning rubs and spices. Corey (@livefromthekitchen_), a traveling private chef, said he was shopping at Walmart when he noticed something odd in its gardening section. As of Tuesday, his video elaborating on his find had amassed more than 130,700 views. “Did y’all know Walmart had these?” Corey asked viewers as his camera panned over a wall of Kinder’s seasonings and rubs. “Am I the only person who didn’t know this?” Walmart offers a variety of seasonings in the gardening department. Corey and numerous other Walmart customers claim that these spice rubs are essential items found in the home and garden department of Walmart. On one hand, this is quite logical. After all, Walmart has its outdoor grills displayed in a nearby area. Therefore, customers interested in smoking or grilling meat probably require some seasonings for the dishes they plan to prepare. Nonetheless, Corey conveyed a sense of astonishment and wonder regarding his discovery.  "I guess this is a sign of my age, considering how thrilled I get over things like this," he remarked. He mentioned Kinder’s Greek blend barbecue rub, along with its habanero pineapple, citrus and garlic mixed with jalapeño, smoked onion, and black cherry chipotle. In his video, Corey suggested that some of these seasonings were “new” or he wasn’t aware of their existence. If you can’t make it to the store in person, though, Walmart sells many of the same flavors online. While prices may vary by state, most six-ounce bottles cost roughly $5, and at least one of the brand’s slightly larger bottles (which was eight ounces) cost about $14 online. Surprised by this discovery, the chef inquired if other Walmart customers were aware that the store offered Kinder's brand seasonings in bulk. "Hey, did you guys realize these were hidden back here?" he inquired. What exactly is Kinder’s?  The California-based company is recognized for offering a variety of blends, marinades, rubs, and spices. To help out customers who don’t know what to prepare, Kinder’s website even has a page of recipes utilizing its various seasonings. In November, a reporter for Tasting Table tried and ranked 13 seasonings she said she was sent by Kinder’s.  Certainly, it appears that the brand has made a positive impact on the author.  "While each of them was certainly good, there were a couple that truly amazed me with their impact," she noted. "I was even taken aback by how impressive the company's basic seasonings were."  For those who want to try Kinder’s for themselves, Walmart isn’t the only retailer to sell Kinder’s products. You can buy many of their products at stores including Amazon, Costco, and Sam’s Club. @livefromthekitchen_ @Kinder’s Flavors @Walmart ♬ original sound – PrivateChefCorey Audiences are equally amazed by the chef's discovery.  In the comments beneath Corey’s video, numerous Walmart customers expressed that this was their first encounter with the store's secret gems. "I'll really miss TikTok because I wouldn't have discovered this otherwise," remarked one user. "Another person chimed in, asking, 'I was curious about where everyone is sourcing these from.'"  "I can hardly contain my excitement now that I've discovered this," commented a third viewer.  Some individuals proudly identified themselves as Walmart enthusiasts, claiming to be well-versed in all that the store provided.  "I realized that after walking around and exploring the entire store," one woman confessed.  “Yes friend,” another echoed. “I be all up in Walmart’s business.” “Catch em at the right time and they be on the clearance aisle,” a third viewer shared. In light of this news, several viewers enthusiastically revealed their cooking plans using Kinder’s seasonings.  “I need tequila lime!” one woman said. “Anyone remember Tyson’s tequila lime chicken wings?” “Wings finna go crazyyyy now,” another added.  "A third user commented, 'The black cherry chipotle is incredible when used on ribs!'" The Daily Dot has reached out to Corey via TikTok comment and to Walmart through its online contact form.

Aldi issues a recall for taquitos following reports from customers about experiencing 'dental injuries' caused by metal fragments.

Aldi, the supermarket chain, has issued a recall for approximately 25,000 pounds of frozen taquitos following multiple reports from customers who discovered metal fragments in the product. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Aldi, the supermarket chain, has issued a recall for approximately 25,000 pounds of frozen taquitos following multiple reports from customers who discovered metal fragments in the product. Supermarket chain Aldi has recalled nearly 25,000 pounds of frozen taquitos after receiving several complaints that there were pieces of metal were found by unsuspecting consumers. A notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed that a consumer suffered a "dental injury" after taking a bite of the taquito. The notice states that the recall specifically concerns 20-ounce packages of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos produced by Bestway Sandwiches, Inc., produced on July 3, 2024, and September 25, 2024, according to CW affiliate WGN-TV. While the release did not state when did not say when the affected items were removed from sale at Aldi, inspectors noted on Saturday they were “concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers." The statement read: “The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS that it received a consumer complaint reporting that a piece of metal was found in the frozen chicken and cheese taquito product,” the FSIS wrote. “Another consumer reported to FSIS to have a dental injury from the product.” View pictures in App save up to 80% data. The announcement revealed that a consumer actually experienced a "dental injury" from biting into the taquito. "Consumers can recognize the impacted product by checking the best-by dates (July 3, 2025, and September 25, 2025) and the establishment number (EST. P-40327), which are clearly displayed on the packaging," they mentioned. The report indicated that, although there is a widespread recall, only a limited number of specific stores were required to remove the Bestway Sandwiches from their shelves. An Aldi spokesperson confirmed that the stores are situated in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. As of Monday morning, Aldi's official website did not feature the taquitos in its list of recalled products, even though the recall announcement was present on the site. Reports indicate that customers who may have bought the taquito products that are potentially contaminated should either throw them away or return them to Aldi for a refund. For further inquiries, individuals can contact Bestway at (818) 361-1800 EXT.110. The recall follows the announcement of Aldi's ambitious plan to launch hundreds of new locations as part of a $9 billion global expansion initiative. The German grocery retailer, well-known for its low prices and distinctive shopping carts that require a quarter to use, aims to establish over 800 new stores in the United States by 2028. According to CEO Jason Hart in a recent press release, these new outlets will also be introduced in various cities, including Las Vegas, to accommodate a growing customer base and fulfill increasing demand. "Our expansion is fueled by our customers' demands for additional Aldi locations in their local areas across the country," he stated. "By pledging to open 800 new stores over the next five years, we will be conveniently located for our shoppers and will also contribute positively to the communities we support." Essential Phrases to Consider When Purchasing Bottled Water

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Jolana Miller When it comes to purchasing bottled water, the options are seemingly limitless, spanning from well-known brands to generic alternatives, along with a wide array of price points. For many, bottled water is the only way to go, and while decades ago, people who paid for water were laughed at and made fun of as uppity or ridiculous to spend money on something free, today, it's the norm. Whether you grab a bottle of water just at the airport before your flight or rely on it as your primary source of hydration, I stumbled upon some intriguing information that might alter your approach to selecting your next bottle. According to Food and Wine Magazine, there's a guy who literally prides himself on knowing water like no one else. His name is Martin Riese, and he's a Mineral Water Sommelier certified by the German Mineral Water Trade Association. This has turned him into a social media influencer. It's not really about the brand name. What matters more is the origin. Whether the label says Arrowhead, Crystal Geyser, or Smartwater doesn't concern me. What's important is the source of the water itself. According to Food and Wine, the only phrase that truly matters when you're buying water is if the bottle says it's "mineral water." If the bottle says "purified water," then keep moving until you see the words mineral water. When you look at the labels, and it says purified water, that actually means it's processed tap water. They're filtering everything out. So, it doesn't have any nutritional value [like] calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. According to Bon Appetit Magazine, drinking mineral water at its core provides your body with the minerals you can't create on your own, like magnesium, calcium, sodium, and zinc. Talk about an easy way to boost your mineral intake. Satisfy Your Thirst with These 7 Delicious Hydration Beverages That Go Beyond Water

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Adobe Stock / Dirima We’ve all heard about how important it is to prioritize our water intake, but on a hot summer (or dry winter!) day, you probably need even more H2O than you think. That’s not great news for those of us who aren’t fans of plain old water to begin with, but never fear — there are plenty of great hydration drinks available that do the trick just as well, if not better. If you're on the lookout for an excellent hydration beverage beyond plain water, focus on finding options rich in electrolytes, vitamins, and nutrients while keeping added sugars low. As you browse the beverages section, make it a habit to check the ingredient labels on various drinks. Ideally, you want to see fewer ingredients, and those should be easy for you to read and comprehend — that’s a sign of a healthier choice. Here’s an alternative version: Consider creating your own hydration beverages using a blender, juicer, or even a kettle for tea. We have numerous suggestions and a few recipes to share with you! Before diving in, let’s take a moment to highlight the importance of hydration drinks and the overall significance of staying hydrated for your health throughout the year. What Makes Hydration Essential? “Your body is about 60 percent water, and during the summer months, we are constantly sweating and exerting energy,” registered dietitian Vanessa Rissetto, CEO of Culina Health, tells SheKnows. “If we aren’t properly hydrated we could end up in the hospital with dehydration, fatigue, and even heat stroke.” “Water is important for just about every function and system in our body, from digestion to brain health,” adds registered dietitian Kaytee Hadley. That’s why symptoms of dehydration can vary so widely, she tells SheKnows; you might feel fatigued and have brain fog, or be experiencing muscle cramps or constipation. All of which is enough of a reason to keep pushing those fluids all summer (and all year) long, but the truth is, sometimes flavorless water does get a bit boring. So how do you stay hydrated without drinking water — plain ol’ unflavored water, that is? We chose to consult the specialists. Continue reading to discover additional methods to maintain hydration through water consumption, along with the top beverages to enjoy when you're feeling thirsty. Plant irrigation Coconut, maple, and cactus water are often touted as being hydrating and a better choice than sports drinks. These trendy drinks may have some benefits, but depending on your goals, you may want to consume them sparingly. “Coconut water is extremely hydrating but quite high in carbs and sugar, so it’s best to drink it in moderation,” says Jason Kozma, a celebrity personal trainer based in Santa Monica. And while maple syrup has a lower glycemic index than your typical granulated sugar, per the Cleveland Clinic (meaning it won’t cause as much of a spike in your blood sugar), it’s still “just a natural sugar,” Kozma says, “and there’s nothing special about it” in terms of helping with hydration. Cactus water still has skeptics as well. Though the Mayo Clinic reports that there is research suggesting it can mitigate some of the effects of a hangover, it may still be too soon to label it a superfood. Still, if you particularly love one of these options and it helps you stay hydrated, go for it — just in moderation. Flavored water Flavored waters are a great, hydration-forward alternative to coconut, maple, or cactus water, and easy to make on your own, Kozma says. “Just add lemon, lime, mint, or watermelon for a refreshing combination,” he explains. Hadley also suggests this idea. “Create your own delightful ‘spa water’ by infusing a pitcher of water with your preferred mix of fruits, cucumber, mint leaves, or basil,” she explains. “Let it chill in the fridge overnight and savor it for the next one to three days.” Iced tea or iced coffee Caffeinated tea or coffee as a hydration drink? Yes, it’s true: these hot-weather staples can be great sources of antioxidants when freshly brewed, but some of us skip it because caffeine is often touted as a diuretic. Well, good news, because “this myth has been debunked,” says Tina Martini, fitness trainer, chef, and author of Caffeinated beverages only have this diuretic effect — meaning they make you urinate more — when consumed in large amounts, Hadley says. “However, caffeinated drinks still have a net hydrating effect,” she explains, “so enjoying that iced latte this summer will, indeed, help you stay hydrated.” Athletic beverages Athletes often turn to sports drinks to replenish electrolytes—like potassium and sodium—that are lost through sweating. However, for most of us engaging in regular exercise, such intense options may not be necessary. Additionally, these beverages frequently contain unnecessary additives. “In general, they are loaded with too many chemicals,” explains Martini. “Creating your own is a better option.” Alternatively, you can enhance your water by adding small amounts of pink Himalayan salt. “The salt’s unique color comes from Astaxanthin, a phytonutrient that helps eliminate free radicals from our blood,” Martini notes. Here’s her take on a healthy, electrolyte-packed hydration solution: Traditional "Greatorade" 1/2 cup of water 1/4杯柠檬汁 1/4杯橙汁 2 tablespoons of lime juice 1-2 teaspoons of honey, agave nectar, or natural maple syrup a dash of pink salt a dash of cayenne pepper ½ teaspoon of magnesium powder (increase to one teaspoon if you are susceptible to muscle cramps) Stir and savor! Electrolyte Sachets Electrolyte supplements have been growing in popularity recently and there’s some research to suggest the can help athletes stay hydrated while working out. You have a lot of options to choose from, with Nuun tablets and Liquid IV leading the charge, and Rissetto loves the Hydrate + Electrolyte Singles from Laird Superfood. When it comes to hydration, “electrolytes are a good place to start,” she says. Watermelon (or Watermelon Juice) Packed with electrolytes, phytonutrients, antioxidants and a healthy dose of vitamin C, watermelon is a refreshing summer fruit that also happens to be 92 percent water — making it not just healthy but hydrating too. It isn’t always ideal to tote a chunk of melon around, but luckily, WTRMLN WTR has managed to squeeze all of its cold-pressed goodness — yes, even the rind! — in a slim bottle. It comes in six flavors and has no added sugars. You can reap all the advantages of watermelon through Martini's post-exercise beverage known as a "shrub." According to Martini, "Shrubs are traditional drinks that offer recovery benefits while being incredibly refreshing. They are experiencing a resurgence!" Watermelon Revival Elixir 1/2 cup of coconut water or regular water 1/2 cup of organic watermelon, diced, including the white rind (simply remove the dark green outer layer). 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice 2-3 sprigs of mint 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar a pinch of pink salt Combine all the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and frothy. Pour into a glass that has been chilled. Vitamin-enriched water Vitamin-enriched water is a popular sipper that seems like the perfect beverage, but unfortunatley, it isn’t so. “It is really more of an adult Kool-Aid, plus many of the vitamins are not absorbed into the body,” says Martini. Indulge in fruits and veggies instead, since they’re jam-packed with vitamins and fiber. If you plan on consuming water with added vitamins, make sure to check the labels because the sugar content can be really high. Hydration advice: Try drinking with a straw. Whichever of these refreshing beverages you choose, consider grabbing a reusable or glass straw to sip it through. “Research suggests that drinking through a straw may actually help you consume more fluids without even realizing it,” Hadley says. The Canned Fruit You Should Avoid Adding to Your Grocery List

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. The Image Party/Shutterstock摄影图库 Say you're about to whip up a bunch of fruit salad or some banana cream pie. If all of the bananas at your grocery store are green, you might tempted to look for a can of them instead. Before you do, take note. This popular fruit made the wrong side of our 6 Best and 6 Worst Canned Fruits to Buy at the Grocery Store. Timing perfectly ripe bananas can be a challenge. Like avocados, they tend to go from "not yet" to "too late" awfully fast. But if they're canned when they're ripe, they're already on their way to being mushy. What's more, packing them in water or sugary syrup (which adds extra calories) will only make them soggier. There's also no guarantee that they'll keep their attractive creamy yellow color. If you're baking with them, that's not a problem, but if they're the star of your recipe, you definitely don't want them to look brown. Why freshness stands out as the top choice View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Pawel Michalowski via Shutterstock Bananas thrive in tropical areas around the globe, often in regions where labor is inexpensive. Unlike several other crops, bananas do not require replanting annually, and a single tree can produce as many as 240 bananas. These characteristics contribute to their low cost, making them roughly half the price per pound compared to apples or oranges. Due to the additional expenses associated with processing, canned bananas are unlikely to be competitive in terms of pricing. Moreover, using canned bananas wouldn't significantly reduce your workload; in fact, peeling a banana might even be quicker than opening a can.  All in all, we can't see any reason to skip buying fresh bananas. At worst, you may have to put them in a paper bag to ripen a little quicker. And if they happen to get overripe, you can always use them in pancakes and waffles or freeze them for the next morning's strawberry-banana smoothie.

'The following day, it won't be stale': A woman suggests placing this in your Coca-Cola can and refrigerating it overnight to maintain its freshness. Does it actually work?

"Just like with a bottle of champagne! I've been at it for years." View pictures in App save up to 80% data. In the late hours of the night, when the craving for a refreshing Coca-Cola or bubbly sparkling water strikes, you may find yourself concerned about whether you'll be able to finish that drink. Similarly, the caffeine found in an entire can of soda can be excessive right before bedtime. However, a small sip of soda could serve as a perfect nightcap. A TikTok user is asserting that you can preserve the freshness of drinks by incorporating a straightforward item into an open can before refrigerating it: a stainless steel tool. She recommends using a spoon, fork, or a reusable straw for this purpose. In a TikTok video that has garnered more than 591,000 views, content creator @theuntamedherbalist reveals a method that can preserve soda or sparkling water for the next day. "Have you heard that if you leave a soda or soda water unfinished before bedtime?" the TikToker starts off. "You can take a spoon, fork, or a stainless steel straw—make sure it's stainless steel—and place it in the can, then store it in the fridge. When you come back the next day, it will still be fizzy!" The Daily Dot has contacted @theuntamedherbalist through a comment on TikTok concerning the video. Is this method effective? For quite some time, it has been suggested that placing a stainless steel spoon into a bottle of sparkling wine, like champagne, can help preserve its fizz when the cork cannot be reinserted into the bottle's opening. The theory supporting this advice is based on the metal’s ability to help reduce the escape of carbon dioxide from the bottle or can. The internet is filled with anecdotes of this trick working to preserve the sparkles in sparkling wine. But it might be a happy coincidence. Disproved But this doesn’t mean that the trick is necessarily an effective means of keeping carbonation in beverages. In these cases, according to the BBC, the fizz was likely to remain without the interference of a spoon. According to the BBC, the "science" supporting the theory is not substantiated. An experiment revealed that using spoons had minimal effect on the amount of fizz remaining in the bottles. The best way to preserve sparkling beverages, it turns out, is to prevent air from escaping the container. For wine bottles, a stopper or cork can achieve this pretty simply. For cans of soda, by virtue of how carbonated the beverage is to start with, simply placing the can in the fridge overnight should retain much of the carbonation. Audience feedback Many viewers believed that if there's only a single can, it ought to be consumed entirely or thrown away if it's not feasible to drink it all in one go. "Not finish a soda?" one user commented. "I have no idea what that means!! Haha." “Who’s out there leaving a can of soda unfinished?” someone else inquired. “In this home, every drop of soda will be savored,” declared a third voice. “No can shall be left with any liquid inside.” @theuntamedherbalist To be honest, the most valuable advice I received about 15 years ago was... ♬ WELTiTA – Bad Bunny & Chuwi Some people suggested a different approach: covering the top of an open soda can with aluminum foil, which could be more effective since it creates a tighter seal. "One commenter mentioned, 'I utilize aluminum foil as a cover.'" "Wow, I can't believe I've been doing this without realizing it using aluminum foil!" another user chimed in. "I just put it on top like a lid." "Another user mentioned, 'Wrapping the top in aluminum foil also does the trick and functions just as effectively.'"

Consuming green tea is associated with a reduced occurrence of white matter lesions in the brains of elderly individuals.

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Image Source: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain A study conducted by the Kanazawa University Graduate School of Medical Sciences has revealed a noteworthy association between increased green tea intake and a reduction in cerebral white matter lesions among older individuals who do not have dementia. The results indicate that consuming three or more cups of green tea each day could be beneficial for maintaining brain health, whereas coffee consumption did not demonstrate a significant impact. Green tea and coffee are recognized for their neuroprotective properties and rank as the second and third most popular beverages worldwide, following water. Previous studies have indicated a connection between the consumption of tea and coffee and cognitive advantages. However, there is a lack of research focusing specifically on their direct impact on structural changes in the brains of older adults. Cerebral white matter lesions, which frequently signal small vessel disease, have been linked to cognitive deterioration, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study sought to assess how the intake of green tea and coffee influences the volume of white matter lesions, hippocampal size, and overall brain volume, utilizing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data for analysis. The study, "Green tea consumption and cerebral white matter lesions in community-dwelling older adults without dementia," published in npj Science of Food, was conducted as part of the Japan Prospective Studies Collaboration for Aging and Dementia, a large-scale, multisite observational study involving eight research centers in Japan. Data was gathered from 2016 to 2018, involving dietary evaluations, MRI imaging, and cognitive assessments of 8,766 individuals aged 65 and above. To assess daily consumption of green tea and coffee, a Food Frequency Questionnaire was employed, classifying intake into four categories: 0–200 ml, 201–400 ml, 401–600 ml, and 601 ml or more. Brain MRI scans yielded information regarding the volume of white matter lesions (WML), hippocampal volume (HV), and total brain volume (TBV). Sophisticated statistical models were utilized to account for confounding variables such as demographic information, health status, lifestyle choices, and genetic predispositions related to Alzheimer's disease. The study omitted participants diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), dementia, or those with incomplete information, resulting in a final group of 8,766 individuals. Once confounding factors were accounted for, a notable link emerged between increased green tea intake and reduced WML volumes. Participants who consumed 600 ml of green tea each day exhibited WML volumes that were 3% less than those who drank 200 ml or less, while individuals consuming 1,500 ml daily showed a 6% decrease in WML volumes compared to the reference group. There were no notable links found between the consumption of green tea and the volumes of the hippocampus or the overall brain. Additionally, coffee intake did not have a significant impact on white matter lesion volume, hippocampal volume, or total brain volume. The research additionally investigated various subgroups classified by their depression status and whether they carried the ApoE ε4 allele. Notable decreases in WML volumes were found exclusively among individuals who did not have depression or the ApoE ε4 allele, correlating with higher intake of green tea. Research indicates that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics of green tea catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate, could help reduce vascular injury and enhance brain health, although the individual components have not been experimentally confirmed as the direct cause. PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump’s love affair with Diet Coke continues as he gears up for his second term. On Tuesday, January 14, the president-elect was beaming with happiness as he received a personalized bottle of his favorite beverage, just days before his inauguration. Donald Trump celebrated with a special edition of Diet Coke commemorating his presidency.  In a photo shared by Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin, Donald Trump is seen grinning ear-to-ear next to Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO James Quincey. The President-elect is pictured with a glass bottle of Diet Coke, adorned with a unique inauguration-themed label. The label showcases a stylish combination of gray, blue, and red, prominently displaying the phrase “Inauguration of President of the United States Donald J Trump” along with the date, January 20, 2025. As if the special edition bottle wasn't sufficient, it was enclosed in a vibrant red box that included a card highlighting Coca-Cola's influence on the economy. The message stated, “We take pride in upholding our longstanding tradition of honoring the US presidential inauguration with a special commemorative bottle,” highlighting the company’s impressive $55 billion impact on economic activity and its backing of 860,000 jobs across the United States. Obama’s inaugural Coke bottles reportedly fetch as much as $50 a pop on eBay, the Daily Mail noted. But the tradition wasn’t as sweet for some Trump critics, who were quick to pour out their disdain on social media. "From this point forward, we will be enjoying Diet Pepsi," a user shared on X. "That's the reason why Pepsi is superior," another person commented. "Out of nowhere, I have a strong desire for a Pepsi," someone commented. "Isn't it what MAGA claimed? That RFK JR would improve the diets of Americans?" another person questioned. "One commenter noted, 'The main reason big corporations are pleased about Trump's return to the presidency is that his tax policies primarily impacted the middle class rather than the wealthy.'" "Trump is expected to start marketing his own soda soon to add to his collection of bibles, sneakers, watches, trading cards, cologne, and various other ventures. What a display of dignity and class... that's our President-elect," another critic expressed indignantly. we will be drinking diet pepsi from now on pic.twitter.com/kBGGFNuMOl — anthony (@lizziesjuul) January 15, 2025 This is the reason why Pepsi is superior. — MORGAN 🎀 (@MMONlKA) January 15, 2025 Out of nowhere, I have an intense desire for a Pepsi. — KATastrophe ❤️‍🩹 | (@KATastrophe1998) January 15, 2025 I was under the impression that MAGA claimed RFK Jr. would improve the diets of Americans. — Grace🇺🇸 (@grace_hackney) January 15, 2025 The primary reason big corporations are pleased with Trump's potential return to office is that his tax policies disproportionately impacted the middle class while leaving the wealthy largely unscathed. — 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵 ♡ (@thankUbardi) January 15, 2025 Trump is expected to launch his own line of soda soon, adding to his collection of merchandise that includes bibles, sneakers, watches, trading cards, cologne, and other ventures. Truly a display of dignity and sophistication… that's our President-elect. — Jeff Rocke (@jjrocke) January 15, 2025 Donald Trump's fascination with Diet Coke Donald Trump’s relationship with Diet Coke is the stuff of legends. During his first stint in the White House, he even installed a button in the Oval Office to summon his favorite drink at a moment’s notice. “Everyone does get a little nervous when I press that button,” Trump joked at the time. His well-known fondness for Diet Coke is such that those in his company seldom witness him consuming anything different. During a podcast, UFC CEO Dana White revealed an interesting observation about Donald Trump, stating, “I’ve never witnessed him drink a glass of water.” He continued, “He’ll spend the entire night at the fights with me—literally, we’re talking about six hours. I’ll offer him a water, and he’ll decline. Then someone will bring him a Coke, and that’s what he ends up drinking.” Even PGA golfer John Daly had to admit that Trump takes the cake—or, in this case, the Coke. “My god, I thought I could drink them, but man, he can drink them,” Daly said in a conversation with Kid Rock and Tucker Carlson. Kid Rock chimed in with a laugh, “He does put them away.” Although he is often associated with Diet Coke, Trump was seen enjoying a red-label Coca-Cola while campaigning for the 2024 election, leading to speculation that he may have made a switch to the original Coke. Certainly, his complicated feelings towards diet sodas are widely known. In a memorable tweet from 2012, Trump remarked, “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” which left many people puzzled. I've yet to come across a slim individual sipping on Diet Coke. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 14, 2012 Despite his concerns, Trump couldn't shake off his fondness for soda. "The Coca-Cola company isn't too pleased with me—that's fine, I'll continue enjoying that junk," he later confessed. The Coca Cola company may not be pleased with my choices, but that's fine; I'll continue to enjoy that beverage regardless. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2012
